A/Prof John-Paul Tung
Senior Research Fellow
Adjunct Associate Professor, University of the Sunshine Coast Honorary Associate Professor, University of Queensland Adjunct Senior Lecturer, Queensland University of Technology
John-Paul is working on better understanding the effects and possible negative outcomes associated with transfusion, especially of stored blood products.
One focus is on transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI). John-Paul's doctoral thesis, from the University of Queensland in 2012, described the first large animal model of TRALI. Another focus is on extracellular vesicles. These tiny fragments of cells play an important role in cell-to-cell communication, both in health and in disease. John-Paul uses a range of animal and laboratory models for his research.
