I have surgery planned or recently had it. Can I donate?

Maybe. It depends on the type of surgery and the recovery period.

Upcoming surgery: If you have surgery planned within 84 days (that’s about three months) of your donation, you may need to wait before donating. Please contact us to discuss your eligibility.

Recent surgery: How long you need to wait to give blood after surgery depends on a number of things. These include the medical condition the surgery was for, the type of surgery, and the recovery period. Contact us and we’ll be able to work out when you can donate.

If you received a blood transfusion during or after your surgery, you’ll have to wait at least 4 months from the transfusion before you donate blood.
