National Research Lead Biostatistics and Epidemiology

Connect with Dr Welvaert

Marijke leads Lifeblood’s Biostatistics and Epidemiology Research team, which plays a central role in generating data-driven evidence to support Lifeblood’s research and strategic priorities. Her team collaborates with researchers across blood donation, donor health, transfusion, and public health to design robust studies, apply appropriate statistical and epidemiological methods, and translate complex data into meaningful insights.

Marijke’s work focuses on turning research questions and operational data into evidence that can improve understanding of donor behaviour, strengthen research quality, and inform decisions across the organisation. She is particularly interested in making statistical thinking accessible to multidisciplinary teams and ensuring that data is used not only to answer questions, but to identify new opportunities for impact.

Her contribution to statistical communication and the promotion of good statistical practice has been recognised by the Australian Statistical Society.
