Metallica x Lifeblood: breaking records

A Sea of Hearts Beat As One

Thank you to all the heroes who answered the call, donating the fuel that keeps the Australian blood supply going.

Breaking records isn’t new for Metallica, but we couldn’t have predicted the crowd swell that rushed to fill our donor centres during the M72 World Tour.

Our limited-edition tee, designed in collaboration with Metallica’s All Within My Hands foundation and their artist SQUINDO, had thousands of you declare ‘nothing else matters aside from getting my bandaged arm through that shirt’.

Over the weeks Metallica shirts were available in participating donor centres, we hosted around double the volume of donors and donations, with a 77% boost in blood donors in the first week alone.

In addition to so many familiar faces, we welcomed 2,000 new donors — more than triple the number of new donors we’d met in the weeks before Metallica hit our shores.

Brisbane and Perth broke records (not guitars), both celebrating their two best weeks ever for blood donations, while Melbourne had the most donations in a single week at any donor centre. Ever. Over at Town Hall in Sydney, five of the top seven days for donations in their history came from the first week of the Metallica campaign.

The five participating centres handed out 12,000 t-shirts and guitar picks, all generously supplied through Metallica’s foundation, All Within My Hands.

May the memory remain, and we'll see you again as those t-shirts wear in — don't let your donor status fade to black!
